SeasFire – Earth System Deep Learning for Seasonal Fire Forecasting in Europe – is a 12-month project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and implemented by the National Observatory of Athens, the Harokopio University of Athens and the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry.

Fires are a major natural hazard, disrupting natural ecosystem services, causing loss of lives, properties, and infrastructure. We find it important to understand and model the phenomenon at a seasonal scale, as it is expected to become more frequent and devastating due to climate change.
